Modernist Forgeries II
May 1 – 26, 2007
Dear Artist,
As you may have heard, we are soliciting artists to participate in Modernist Forgeries II, our 2007 50/50 fundraising show and sale. We would like to invite you to create a forgery of a Modernist work for this extravagant occasion.
In order to participate, please follow the following steps:
1. Select a Modernist artwork that you would like to copy. A work from the late 19th c. or 20th c. and which of course includes High Modernism or earlier historical trajectory. You need not limit your work to painting; you may contribute a sculpture, drawing, photograph, mixed media work, assemblage etc. that copies, in detail, the great work.
2. Inform us of your participation in the show by April 30, 2007.
3. If you would like a canvas stretched for you, provide us with the dimensions by April 30, 2007.
4. You may create your forgery on your own, or during open studio in the Gallery during the following times:
May 1 – 10, 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
5. Decide on a price for your masterpiece. This is a 50/50 fundraiser in which you will keep 50% of the selling price and the gallery will keep 50%. You also have the option of donating 100% of the proceeds to the gallery. You will receive a tax receipt for your donation.
6. Bring your work to the gallery on or before May 11th for installation, accompanied by the attached form. (Name detail, title of work, dimensions, artist copied, price.)
7. The show will run from May 15 to 19, 2007. Works will be on sale from that time on a first come first serve basis.
The closing reception will take place on Saturday, May 19 at 8:00 pm, after which buyers will be allowed to take the works home.
8. Work that is not sold must be picked up by June 15th, 2007. All works that are not picked up by this date become property of Neutral Ground.
Students encouraged to participate. Class assignments also accepted.
Thank you!
