Modernist Forgeries
Studio Project & Exhibition
August 9 – 23, 2002
Reception & Sale: Saturday August 24 at 8:00 pm
The Modernist Forgeries Exhibition is a creative studio project and exhibition that emphasizes painting, the art market, technical achievement, romantic idealism, perfection & transcendence, repressed vanities, and the influence of these forces on contemporary visual practice.
From August 9 through 23, 2002, the gallery space at Neutral Ground will transform into an artists’ studio where forgeries of the best loved Modernist paintings will be created. On August 24th commencing at 8:00 pm, the new forgeries will be sold for Neutral Ground. Revenues will be shared 50/50 between the artist and the gallery. We look forward to seeing the seminal Klee’s, Mondrian’s, Rothko’s, Pollock’s, Picasso’s, Frankenthaler’s, Magritte’s, Dali’s, de Kooning’s, and even Courbet’s in our beautiful white cube space. Artists should submit a short description of their intent to make a work. As many forgeries as possible will be displayed and works will be edited for quality. You may also donate works made off-sit.
