Presented by Soil Digital Media Suite at Neutral Ground, Regina, Canada. Also supported by Odyssey Art and Performance.
the discovery happens much later in my life, many years from now – at least as far as one lifetime is concerned, the sky islands were perhaps always waiting for me. the creatures who inhabited them, calling me through time creatures locked in a state of eternal flux, it seemed somehow my actions had defined their parameters, i had defined their extremes, and never allowed them to settle into any given state.
Since opening September 6, 2009, visitors to Neutral Ground in Regina, Canada have been able to directly observe and influence the evolving state of a system that exists high above ground level at the Odyssey SIM in Second Life.
This system exists within its own reality between Second Life and the gallery installation, but also within a narrative in the form of fragments of a future journal of an explorer of as yet undiscovered sites. The fragments are made available to the viewer at the gallery and at the virtual site as parts of a continued series of explorations that will become part of future projects in this same series.
The exhibitions will close January 31, 2009 and be active as a gallery installation and virtual site until then. You are invited to an in-world get together on November 22nd at 6:00 pm SLT and 8:00 pm Saskatchewan time, where both nonnatus and the projects curator, 3d2 Pintens/Brenda Cleniuk will be available for questions.
A short paper by Andrew Burrell on the project will also be launched in-world as a way for some of the underlying issues of the work to be further engaged by the viewer.
