Surveillant Pleasures: Research-Creation Workshop

Surveillant Pleasures: Research-Creation Workshop

Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 6:00pm – 8:00pm and Friday, July 11, 2025 at 2:00pm – 4:00pm
In-person at Neutral Ground ARC
Registration Deadline: July 3rd, 2025

Neutral Ground is partnering with @camhunters for the research-creation workshop series, Surveillant Pleasures. Surveillant Pleasures brings together an interdisciplinary constellation of 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, disabled, classed, and gendered artists, curators, and scholars in so-called Canada to engage with theories of both pleasure and surveillance—in particular, exploring how using surveillance technologies and practices in relation to “pleasure activism” may create forms of healing, care, and radical empowerment (brown 2019).

Participants interested in participating in the research component of the workshop may answer three questions about their experience using the equipment, their artwork, and the workshop, that may be video/audio recorded or written. Those who take part in the research component of the workshop will receive a 100$ Visa gift card as part of their participation. Furthermore, these participants may be invited to submit their artwork created during the workshop as part of a zine to be created by the workshop leaders.

Registration and participation in this research-creation project is limited and prioritizes equity deserving artists. The deadline to register is July 3rd.

Visit www.camhunters.org/neutralground  for registration and more information about the research project (Carleton University ethics ID: #119403 and University of Calgary ethics ID: REB23-1751).

Please note that participants must attend both days of this workshop.
