Satellite Bureau

Satellite Bureau – An international, creative residency project in

Jen Southern and Jen Hamilton
March 29 – April 7, 9:00 am – 5:15 pm

The artists will be in residence March 29 to April 7, 2005, and are looking for interested parties to participate in GPS walks. During the two weeks of the residency, the artists will conduct a workshop with members of the scheduled public. During this time, four participants will take each artist on a walk (or a drive) in Regina to give us a tour of what they think defines a particular region or neighborhood.

The sociological constraints of a city, that is, where you can move and where you can’t, serve as structural elements for parameters the artists are working on visualizing while in residency at Soil.

Satellite Bureau uses the technology of the Global Positioning System device to track walks taken with local residents and produce GPS drawings or visualizations of these tracks. The resulting digital traces will be recorded on the GPS device and used in the researching of spatial data representation.
