Art’s Birthday Mini Festival
Saturday, January 21st
11:00 am – 12:30 pm – Cyanotype Workshop with Sheldon Brown
Join us in the early afternoon to celebrate the birth of art by making cyanotypes with emerging artist Sheldon Brown. Participants will go home with one-of-a-kind work and introductory knowledge to continue the cyanotype process at home!
Cyanotype is a photography process that uses a photosensitive solution that is applied to
paper or fabric. Ferric ammonium citrate (or oxalate) and potassium ferricyanide are
combined to create a solution that is sensitive to UV light. Cyanotypes are simple and use
chemicals that are safe, and can be easily developed. Participants can expect to create
cyanotype prints on fabric and paper, using different small objects, and will
learn how to coat, expose, and develop these prints. Materials will be provided but participants are welcome to bring leaves or other plant material from their house plants to personalize their cyanotypes.
2:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Sound, Spatial, and Performance Art with U of R Map Students instructed by Lindsey French
In the afternoon, visitors are welcomed back to the gallery space to enjoy a variety of performances, video, sound, and spatial art created by several emerging student artists from the University of Regina.
