Neutral Ground Summer Archive Assistant: Deadline - July 3, 2020

8-week position: August 5 - end of September / Dates somewhat flexible

$16/hour: Average of 32 hrs/week with flexible hours - based on fall schedule of successful applicant

Neutral Ground is a not-for-profit, charitable, artist-run-centre that presents contemporary visual and media art. Since 1982, Neutral Ground has supported experimental art practices by connecting audiences to the work of emerging and mid-career artists. Located on Treaty 4 Territory in downtown Regina, Neutral Ground’s primary mission is to provide a professional venue for the exhibition and presentation of contemporary art.

Summary of the position:
Reporting to the Administrative Director and the Programming Director, the Archive Assistant will be primarily responsible for: Populating Neutral Ground’s new website with relevant material from the organization’s digital archive; updating this archive with material dating back to the founding of the organization in 1982; working onsite at Neutral Ground’s office in downtown Regina to assist with the day-to-day operations of the gallery (including interfacing with the public, attending events and meetings with staff and the board of directors.)

Additional tasks and opportunities to include: Animating Neutral Ground’s social media and digital newsletter with historical content from the archive; curating and mounting an exhibition from these materials in Neutral Ground’s Window Gallery; assisting with improving the navigability of our online archive in consultation with a web designer and digitizing hard-copy archives. Other duties and tasks may be tailored to the specific interests of the successful applicant.

This position will include significant mentorship and support from various arts professionals within Neutral Ground’s community. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience and knowledge in the field of Canadian contemporary art; Neutral Ground’s history as an Artist-Run Center dating back to the early 1980s; the structure and operations of a non-profit organization; curating and mounting exhibitions.

The ideal candidate:
- Is enrolled in post-secondary education in fine arts, art history, curatorial studies, graphic design (or
comparable education/demonstrable life experience)
- Is interested in Canadian contemporary art and artist-run culture
- Is digitally savvy, with experience in or a willingness to learn to use MailChimp and social media management
- Possesses excellent communication skills and digital literacy
Is highly organized, motivated and attentive to deadlines
Has a basic understanding of web-design and structure
Is open to and interested in learning new skills and gaining experience in the field.
